The Anti-Big Brother Act, New Jersey Statutes Annotated (N.J.S.A.) 18A:36-39 (P.L. 2013, c.44), requires that parents/guardians of students who have been assigned a district or school owned device for use outside of school in connection with the district’s academic program, must be notified and informed of the following:
“If a school district furnishes a student with a laptop computer, cellular telephone, or other electronic device, the district shall provide the student with written or electronic notification that the electronic device may record or collect information on the student's activity or the student's use of the device if the electronic device is equipped with a camera, global positioning system, or other feature capable of recording or collecting information on the student's activity or use of the device."
This document serves as notice that the Carlstadt-East Rutherford Regional High School District (Henry P. Becton Regional High School) will not use any of the capabilities in a manner that would violate the privacy rights of the student or any individual residing with the student while they are using the device outside of school.
Before your child is permitted to use any district owned device outside of school, you must acknowledge that you understand and accept the Anti-Big Brother act notification.
Henry P. Regional High School now has the ability to create accounts for all students that allow for collaborative sharing using Google G-Suite Apps. These accounts, which have been used for school-related projects, offer students access to a wealth of collaborative tools available through Google Apps. Housed on Google servers, these accounts give your student 24-hour access to Google Docs (word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software), instant messaging, email, calendar, website authoring tools, plus additional services. This has already allowed your student to collaborate with teachers and other students as well as share information with other Internet users.
School-Related Email Address:
As you already know, all students have been assigned a school email account. This account will be considered the student's official Becton Regional High School email address until such time as the student is no longer enrolled in Becton Regional High School.
Access to and use of Google G- Suite Apps is considered a privilege given at the discretion of the Henry P. Becton Regional High School administration and staff. The District maintains the right to immediately withdraw the access and use of the account when there is reason to believe that violations of law, School Board, or Chromebook policies have occurred. In such cases, the alleged violation will be referred to the Principal for further investigation and appropriate consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student/Parent Chromebook Agreement Forms, will be imposed.
Students are responsible for acceptable and appropriate behavior and conduct on school district computer networks/computers as described in the Acceptable Use of Computer Networks/Computers and Resources Policy. Violations of the District policy may result in a loss of access as well as other disciplinary or legal action, including if warranted, reports to legal authorities and entities. Disciplinary action shall be taken as indicated in the following Policies and/or Regulations: #2361, Acceptable Use of Computer Networks/Computers and Resources; and #5600, Student Discipline/Code of Conduct.
